Overwatch hero 31 Sigma playable on PTR – abilities, ultimate, more

Sigma is the latest hero to join the Overwatch roster as the game 31st hero. Here’s everything you need to know about this main tank “living weapon”.

Sigma’s hero origin story was released on July 22 and gave us a few hints into what his kit and abilities would be. But now the three-star difficulty main tank is officially live and playable on the PTR.

His primary weapons are called “hyper spheres”. These are projectiles similar to Zenyatta’s orbs, but they can bounce off surfaces and deal damage in the an area. While they don’t headshot for extra damage, they are very powerful.

Sigma also has a unique shield ability called Experimental Barrier. As described on PlayOverwatch hero page: “Sigma propels a floating barrier to a location of his choosing. He can dismiss the barrier at any time.”

It’s very similar to Symmetra’s old barrier that was added to her kit during her second rework.

While Sigma does not have a passive ability, he floats just like Zenyatta and therefore doesn’t have any footstep sounds. This could prove to be useful for potential flanks without giving away your position.

Sigma’s next ability is “Kinetic Grasp”. This allows him to freeze incoming projectiles in midair and convert them into shields. However, as game director Jeff Kaplan explained on Seagull’s stream, this is not like D.va’s defense matrix and will not absorb ultimates like Zarya’s graviton surge. Instead, it will absorb the damage graviton surge applies.

His other form of damage is called “Accretion”. This looks very similar to a previously unreleased, but tested Doomfist ability where he would throw rocks at enemies. The official ability description reads, “Sigma gathers a mass of debris and flings it at an enemy to knock them down.”

Finally, there is Sigma’s ultimate “Gravitic Flux”. With this, “Sigma takes flight, lifts enemies in a targeted area, and launches them into the sky before slamming them back down.”

Once again, the area of effect looks similar to Doomfist’s ultimate Meteor Strike and acts similar too as Sigma can use his ultimate for mobility.

What about Sigma’s lore?

Sigma’s hero page on the PlayOverwatch website has revealed several key details about the game’s latest Talon tank.

The 62-year-old’s real name is Siebren de Kuiper and his former base of operations is listed as The Hague, Netherlands. He is Overwatch’s first Dutch hero

“Brilliant astrophysicist Dr. Siebren de Kuiper’s life changed forever when an experiment gone wrong gave him the ability to control gravity; now, Talon manipulates him to their own ends,” Sigma’s story history reads.

Sigma is live on the PTR right now! Keep it locked to Dexero for more information as it comes in.
