The third Overwatch Anniversary event is well underway and fans have been able to get their hands on some brand new skins for their favorite heroes. One of the most sought after looks was the new Academy D.Va skin that was teased as having the potential to “break the internet.”

However, some eagle-eyed fans have now discovered that the highly-anticipated look was in the game all along - it just took some digging to uncover.

Blizzard Entertainment
D.Va has had a ton of new skins since the release of Overwatch.

In a post to the Overwatch subreddit, user Owlero, showed that the skin was hiding in D.Va’s room on the Busan map. However, it wasn’t hiding on the floor as a hard-to-find toy or another sort of easter egg - instead, players just had to take a look at her computer wallpaper.

While there is a little difference in the skin, the wallpaper is more red than pink and has a green and light blue twinge to the back of the tail and the character in the MEKA has a bigger helmet, it’s clear to see that it’s the same thing.

Now, considering D.Va’s backstory as Hana Song, the hero had a love for video games as an esports champion prior to Overwatch which could easily connect to the new skin.

It’s quite possible that the skin on the wallpaper formed some sort of inspiration for D.Va’s Anniversary skin - giving the MEKA a brand new look. That’s up for Blizzard to decide as they control the lore of the game.

D.Va is one of the more popular heroes to use in Overwatch.

How long is left in Overwatch Anniversary?

There is still plenty of time left in the Overwatch Anniversary event, with a number of skins yet to be revealed and released into the game. It has been confirmed that Ashe, Baptiste, and Hammond will all be getting new dance emotes, so they will be able to break out into some moves while waiting for a game to get underway.

As ever, it’s only Blizzard who knows just what new content will be added to the game and just when they will do so.
