Dafran’s “genius” Overwatch strategy makes Bastion unstoppable on Volskaya

Former Overwatch League pro turned part-time Twitch streamer and farmer Daniel ‘Dafran’ Francesca returned to his roots as a DPS icon in Blizzard’s FPS with a stunning defensive tactic for Bastion.

Dafran, who made a career out of his incredible aim, showed off a genius strategy to full-hold Volskaya Industries with the omnic hero Bastion with some big help from a couple of tanks and a Symmetra.

As a hero, Bastion is very much an all-in type of character, especially on first-point defense where you don’t get the luxury of changing heroes unless you die. While he has incredible amounts of damage in sentry form, his lack of mobility makes him a sitting duck when focused hard.

This is where the help of barriers and a Symmetra teleporter comes into play. With the teleporter, he can overcome his mobility limitations and carefully escape from a dive.

Bastion in sentry form
Bastion has incredible damage, but low mobility.

Plus, the added protection of Sigma and Orisa shields further harden the bunker setup, making it extremely difficult to penetrate.

In Francesca’s defense on Volskaya, he made use of the entire team composition to stay alive and deal insane amounts of damage to the enemies. With his team up on the high ground overlooking the objective, the Danish DPS star was able to use the teleporter to instantly reappear in the small room off to the side of the point.

As you can see from the clips, he is able to constantly pressure the enemy Wrecking Ball and Tracer as they look for openings and shred them nonstop. Even though he loses some teammates, the tanks are able to survive and the damage proves to be very effective.

“Dude, this is a genius TP!” he screamed after fragging out to eliminate the two dive threats. “This is a f**king 500 IQ TP!”

Keep in mind this was a high Grand Master ranked game, so the fact this strategy worked so well was really something.

Plus, another added benefit of the teleporter came late into the round with the enemy squad running low on time and getting desperate. As the enemy Sigma activated his Gravitic Flux ultimate, Dafran was simply able to teleport to safety before instantly returning to pressure the off-tank.

“This is f**king genius. This is no kap, a f**king 500 IQ strat.”

In the end, Dafran’s team only ended up giving up 44% of the point, which was easy enough to outperform on his squad’s attack resulting in an easy win.

Next time you’re defending on Volskaya, give this strategy a try and see if you can reap the rewards just as Francesca did.
