Dafran claims map editor coming to Overwatch, is he telling the truth?

Former Overwatch League pro Daniel ‘Dafran’ Francesca has claimed that a map editor is coming to the game in the next developer update – but fans think he could be pulling everyone’s leg.

The full-time Twitch streamer was checking out the drama-filled OverwatchTMZ subreddit on January 23 when he started watching a clip of Jeff ‘emongg’ Anderson hinting that something big would be added to make the game more enjoyable.

“I have the leaks too,” Dafran claimed. “I just can’t say. Dude, us Overwatch streamers get all the leaks. We have all the information. We talk to Blizzard about everything and we go back and forth and they ask us about our opinions and stuff. We basically know everything.”

According to the Atlanta Reign streamer, he knows everything that will be coming up until the year 2021.

After debating about whether or not he should leak some information, the DPS legend decided to reveal a clue about the new update, but noted it was a smaller part of a larger improvement to the game.

“The next developer update might have something to do with a map editor. Maybe. Maybe a map editor. Maybe, dude. I’m not saying yes. I’m just saying maybe. Wink.”

It’s definitely possible that Overwatch will be getting a map editor as some sort of enhancement to the Workshop Mode, but it’s unlikely that it’s the big balance update that had been hinted at.

As we previously reported, Game Director Jeff Kaplan explained that while the long-requested feature of hero bans will not be added, the team has a plan to speed up balance which will be revealed in a video next week.

“If the problem we are trying to solve is that the meta needs to change more, hero bans might actually make the problem worse, not better. We do a have a solution in mind – an actual system – that we’ll talk about (next week’s dev update) but it is not hero bans,” Kaplan wrote in a forum post.

Could Overwatch’s Paris map finally be decent with a map editor?

It does seem like this upcoming developer update will really address the game’s balance issues and stagnant meta. If the update also includes a map editor, it could be one of the largest upcoming patches in the game’s history.

It will be interesting to see what does in fact get added to the game and if Dafran was telling the truth. It’s likely that he could just have been trolling, but you never know with him.

We will have to wait and see.
