The decision by the Dallas Fuel Overwatch League team to release controversial player Félix ‘xQc’ Lengyel didn’t come as much of a surprise to everyone.
The passionate Canadian player has been in the bad books with the OWL since the start of the year when he made a homophobic joke towards a Houston Outlaws player.
After serving both an OWL suspension and an internal one with Fuel, he returned to compete during Stage Two of the inaugural season of the high profile competition.
However, on March 9th, another ruling was announced by the Overwatch League, which once again saw xQc suspended for four matches. The latest suspension would have seen him absent through to the end of Stage 2.
On Sunday, December 11th it was announced that xQc had been released by Dallas Fuel by mutual agreement, ending his contract that was due to finish at the end of Stage One.
As one of the best Winston players in the world, rumors immediately began to swirl about who he was set to join, with San Francisco Shock getting a number of mentions.
Will we see xQc turn up in a rival jersey? It’s unlikely according to the player who discussed his options when he streamed following the news.
“When you get signed into a team, they sign you with an org contract, or whatever, but then the league has to approve your entry.
So the league would have to manually approve my re-entry into another team and I don’t know about that my dude. Listen, I think that’s a little unlikely to be fair.”
