Call of Duty Championships 2017
Lower Bracket Round Three
Rise Nation: Faccento, AquA, FeLonY, Loony
Ghost Gaming: SpaceLy, Lacefield, Maux, LlamaGod
Rise Nation’s lower bracket run continues with a 3-1 victory over Ghost Gaming at the Call of Duty Championships.
Having looked strong in the group stage, Rise Nation faltered in round one of the winner bracket, losing to Infused and renewing doubts about the squad. Since then, however, the team have managed to make their way through three strong opponents to remain in contention.
Their most recent battle was against Ghost Gaming, a squad that have impressed since their formation prior to Stage Two of the Global Pro League. Ghost came out swinging in the first map of this match, taking a convincing 250-150 Breakout Hardpoint to kick things off.
It seems perhaps Rise need to lose map one in order to kick into gear, because much like their previous match against Allegiance it wasn’t until after that early loss that they began to perform. The squad responded immediately, taking a 6-1 Throwback Search and Destroy to tie the series at 1-1.
Precinct Uplink was a frenetic affair. The two teams went back and forth in a high-scoring game, but ultimately it was Rise that pulled out the victory, eventually drawing away and closing it out 18-10 to take the series lead.
With Rise on match point, Ghost needed a big performance on Retaliation Hardpoint. They certainly put up a fight, with the map coming down to the wire, but in the final minute it was Rise that came though, clinching a 250-229 victory to take the match 3-1.
Having secured a top-six finish, Rise Nation await the loser of the winner bracket semi-final between OpTic Gaming and FaZe Clan. After an impressive run, Ghost Gaming’s tournament is now over, ending with a top-eight placement.
