Red Reserve picked up their first win of Group Yellow in a five-game series against Rise Nation.
Red had a strong start to the group, playing Splyce very close in a series that ultimately went the way of the Stage One champions in a fifth game. The team stayed hot coming into their match against Rise Nation, picking up a convincing Breakout Hardpoint 250-131.
The European squad then put up an even stronger performance on Search and Destroy, often a critical game mode in any success Rise has found in the past. A 6-1 win for Red Reserve put them on match point, looking in a class above a Rise Nation still reeling from a tough loss to eUnited earlier in the day.
In Uplink, however, Rise were able to turn things around. A 10-5 win on Precinct kept them alive, before a hard-fought 250-228 Scorch Hardpoint forced a fifth game, setting up the reverse sweep.
In Search and Destroy, though, Red remained supreme. Another emphatic victory ultimately ended at 6-1 in their favor once again, with a ninja defuse from Rhys ‘Rated’ Price adding insult to injury in the final round.
The loss puts Rise in a tough position after day one, and given the nature of the losses the squad will have to work hard to maintain morale. Teams have, however, come back from worse, and taking maps in both series keeps them within reach still should they start to pick up some series wins.
Red, meanwhile, have had a solid first day. A win against Rise Nation was key to positioning themselves as a Playoff contender, and while it may be a little disappointing to have come so close and fallen short against Splyce, the maps in their favor will do them no harm. This squad are very much a threat going forward if they can maintain their day one form.
