Red Reserve took down eUnited in a five-game nail-biter to open day two of Group Yellow.
The group was always touted as one of the toughest of the league, with every team a threat to challenge for playoffs. After an explosive first day, it seems we’re in for a similar story on day two, with Red handing eUnited their first series loss in the closest match of the group so far.
Every single map came down to the wire. Red drew first blood in a 250-229 Scorch Hardpoint, but despite their typically strong Search and Destroy it was eUnited that were able to clutch up on Crusher SnD, taking it in a hectic round 11 that ended in a brief 1v1.
Uplink was a similarly close affair, with Red only taking Throwback 4-2 in a game that remained within one possession for either team throughout. Retaliation offered an even closer Hardpoint than Scorch had, with eUnited this time able to clinch it 250-242.
Fifth games are by now rather familiar to Red Reserve, and with Throwback the deciding map it was they that were able to come out on top – though again by a fairly narrow margin, taking it 6-4 to win the series 3-2.
The victory leaves the group wide open, slowing down an eUnited that were hoping for a clean run to playoffs following a strong first day. Red Reserve themselves are now firmly in the race, with only a single map against Splyce having prevented them from a 3-0 start of their own in the first round-robin.
