OpTic Gaming’s Danish star Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif picked up an incredible Desert Eagle ace during an eco round at the $750,000 ESL Pro League Finals.
The European roster played in the North American division of EPL’s sixth season and claimed the number one seed from the region.
However, the expectations for the roster are not particularly high after they failed to qualify for the ELEAGUE Boston 2018 Major Offline Qualifier and only managed a top 4 finish at iBUYPOWER Masters 2017.
Adam ‘friberg’ Friberg’s team did not seem to get that memo, though, as they got off to a strong start in the Group Stage on the first day of competition.
A 16-14 loss to NiP in their first match did not deter the OpTic players who bounced back to shock SK Gaming on Mirage with a 16-14 win of their own.
SK Gaming currently regarded as the number one or two team on Earth following victories at EPICENTER 2017 and BLAST Pro Series but Magisk and co. were not daunted.
Their next match was against Sean ‘[email protected]’ Gares’ Misfits roster on Overpass. Misfits were coming off of a 16-11 victory over NRG Esports and kept things close during the first half against OpTic Gaming.
At one point Misfits looked set to reduce OpTic’s lead to 7-6 as the European team were on an eco round. However, Magisk had the funds to afford a Desert Eagle and proceeded to demolish the Misfits players.
Despite the North American team’s full utility, armor, and weaponry, Magisk held firm on B bombsite to kill three.
Misfits started to bring the round back and eventually got things down to a 2 vs. 1 situation with just the unarmored Dane to face them.
But the 19 year old wasn’t phased and soon picked off the last two players as well, winning OpTic a round that should have never been theirs.
OpTic would go on to win the match 16-11 and were in join first place in Group B at the close of the first day’s proceedings.
