The Philadelphia Fusion received some support from the Philadelphia Flyers ahead of their Overwatch League debut.
Ahead of Fusion’s first match in the Overwatch League, NHL team the Philadelphia Flyers tweeted some words of encouragement for the Overwatch team as they looked to begin their campaign in season one.
The tweet features two Flyers players offering, with perhaps slightly questionable sincerity, their support to a fellow Philadelphia team.
The #Flyers wanted to pass along a little good luck message to our eSports friends before they left for the bye week…

The Philadelphia Fusion were making their very first competitive appearance on day two of the Overwatch League. Not having been built around an existing team – with a few ex-FaZe players forming the largest group from a single squad – the roster already lacked any history on which to base evaluations.
Unlike the other brand-new rosters, however, Philadelphia Fusion didn’t make their debut in the pre-season, having been unable to field a team due to player visa issues. As a result, Fusion were an entirely unknown quantity heading into a game against an Outlaws team that impressed in the pre-season despite losses to Dallas Fuel and Seoul Dynasty.
Nevertheless, the Philadelphia Fusion came out swinging, and were able to push the match to a fifth game – the first such series of the season – which they came out on top of to secure their first victory.
It’s a solid start to the league for the Fusion, who can only be expected to improve from here now that they can actually practice together as a team. Perhaps they were indeed encouraged by support from their fellow Philadelphia competitors.
