Hector Rodriguez, better known as OpTic H3CZ, first recruited Matt “Nadeshot” Haag to his organization back in early 2010. Now, in 2017, his OpTic Gaming League of Legends team took their first loss in the NA LCS at the hands of Nadeshot owned 100 Thieves.
The opening day of the NA LCS Spring 2018 did not disappoint, with incredible matchups such as Team Liquid vs Team SoloMid kicking off the action, followed by a match up that will be close to the heart of all OpTic Gaming fans, where their team faced off against 100 Thieves.
The two sides, despite being new comers to League of Legends, in fact have a storied history in Esports, with OpTic Gaming being one of the largest and best supported organizations globally, and 100 Thieves the creation of one of OpTic’s longest members, and for a long time the poster boy of their Call of Duty team, Nadeshot.
100 Thieves’ first foray into esports was back in 2016, when Nadeshot recruited the ‘Team Papey’ Call of Duty roster, after they had qualified to compete in the regular season of stage 2 of the NA CWL (Call of Duty World League).
Despite it being an unsuccessful venture, Nadeshot’s vision was yet to be realized, and his ambition to create a recognized esports teams was only on level one. In 2017, he announced that 100 Thieves would be partnering with NBA team Cleveland Cavaliers, and recruiting a League of Leagends team to compete in the NA LCS. Later, it was announced they would also be recruiting members of the former Immortals CS:GO roster, thus fielding a world class Counter-Strike team as well.
Similarly, H3Cz also had ambitions of expanding OpTic into PC Games further than their CS:GO roster, and now fields teams in Dota 2, as well as Overwatch League with the Houston Outlaws. Their League of Legends team came together on January 3rd of 2018, and would be competing against the likes of 100 Thieves in the NA LCS.
Their match was an entertaining one, and very closely fought, with the opening moments neither team dared to make an error. After a grualling first hour, 100 Thieves finally recovered complete map control, infiltrating the OpTic base and taking their first win in the NA LCS.
