The OpTic Gaming Call of Duty team placement at CWL Anaheim wasn’t what their team or fans expected across the June 16th to 18th tournament.
After a flawless group stage where they didn’t drop a map in four games, they were matched up against Luminosity Gaming in the first winner bracket round.
The LG team led by Renato ‘Saints’ Forza had already beaten OpTic at the CWL Global Pro League playoffs just two weeks before, and it was a similar story this time around as they dropped them to the loser bracket with a 3-2 victory.
Heading into Championship Sunday, OpTic had to play Rise Nation in their first match, but they took down the CWL Las Vegas champions with relative ease, cruising to a 3-0 victory.
That’s where the OpTic loser bracket run came to an end as they were matched up against an impressive Enigma6 team, who took them to last map and ultimately knocked them out of the tournament in 7th/8th position.
With rosters such as FaZe, Luminosity, EnVyUs and eUnited all rumored to be making changes after this event, questions started to be asked about whether OG would be changing things up too.
We can exclusively reveal after speaking to OpTic owner Hector ‘H3CZ’ Rodriguez that there will definitely be no changes ahead of Stage Two of the Pro League and CoD Champs 2017.
When prompted with the question, he simply stated in no uncertain terms that at this point in the season it was not an option for the players or the organization.
The news will be welcome relief to the GreenWalls fans who were concerned that their recent disappointing placements put the 2-year longevity of the squad in jeopardy.
Focus for OpTic will now turn to Stage Two of the CWL Global Pro League, playing out in Group Green against Team EnVyUs, Epsilon and one of the qualified relegation teams.
