The identity of the suspect in the YouTube HQ shooting has been identified as Nasim Aghdam, a 39-year-old animal rights activist from San Diego.
Around midday on Tuesday, April 3rd, it's believed that Nasim entered the YouTube campus in San Bruno,
California, with a weapon and opened fire on three people, before killing herself.
The news quickly spread worldwide via social media with various members of YouTube staff posting updates via Twitter. The authorities were quick on the scene, however, the situation had already ended before they arrived, with reports of four people being taken to hospitals nearby.
The identity of the shooter was established as Nasim Aghdam, a vegan bodybuilder and animal rights activist who believed her videos were being censored on YouTube due to a drop in views on her channel.
She set up a website dedicated to denouncing YouTube and their practices, and across her social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook, she called YouTube employee's close-minded and accused them of filtering her work.
In the hours following her identity reveal, she had all of her social media accounts taken down, including her YouTube channel.
Images of her social media accounts show she had over 50,000 followers on Instagram.
News outlets descended upon her family home following the announcement, with her father claiming he had contacted authorities to warn that she might be looking to target YouTube, and her brother continuing to explain she always complained that YouTube had ruined her life.
