eUnited secured the top seed in Group Yellow with a 3-0 sweep against Splyce in the final match of the weekend.
With the top two teams already secure in their qualification for the Stage Two Playoffs, the series would be only for seeding – although it didn’t ultimately take a whole series to lock in their positions.
With the map count advantage coming in, eUnited only needed to win a single map to take the top spot in the group, which they would accomplish in the very first Hardpoint. Another superstar performance from James ‘Clayster’ Eubanks led the team to a victory on Throwback Hardpoint, securing them the number one seed.
The rest of the match was a fairly trivial affair. With Splyce having nothing left to play for, the Stage One champions looked somewhat deflated, although they still offered some resistance. eUnited took Retaliation Search and Destroy 6-4 to extend their lead, before closing out the series with yet another fantastic showing from Clayster on the way to a 3-2 Throwback Uplink victory.
The match concludes an impressive debut for the new eUnited squad, who in their early days are already shaping up as a potential championship contender. Splyce, meanwhile, close out Group Yellow with a 0-6 loss streak on the final day, highlighting a generally underwhelming weekend for the Stage One champions. There is time to correct their shortcomings ahead of the Playoffs, but the team will undoubtedly need a better performance if they are to retain their Global Pro League title.
