eUnited closed out day one of Group Yellow with an emphatic win against Splyce.
The new-look eUnited, now featuring long-time FaZe player James ‘Clayster’ Eubanks, were always expected to be something of a wild-card coming into Group Yellow, with the team’s anticipated performance difficult to gauge. Nevertheless, Stage One champions and CWL Anaheim finalists Splyce remained favorites to top the group, having looked solid ever since their own formation.
It was eUnited, however, that had the hot hand to start their series, the closing match of day one. Breakout Hardpoint hadn’t been kind to Splyce earlier in the day, when Red Reserve put them in the 100-point club, and it wasn’t much friendlier here. A 250-117 win gave eUnited the early series lead.
Splyce were quick to tie the series up, with a strong showing on Throwback Hardpoint leading to a 6-4 victory. On Precinct Uplink, however, eUnited – and specifically Justin ‘SiLLY’ Fargo – found another gear, annihilating the European squad in a 17-6 thrashing.
There would be no slowing down on Scorch Hardpoint, with new addition Clayster continuing to put in a fantastic first shift alongside an impressive Preston ‘Prestinni’ Sanderson. A 250-50 score line would end the series in their favor, 3-1.
The win concludes a fantastic opening day for eUnited, while Splyce continue to look more vulnerable than was largely anticipated. It remains early in the group, however, and neither team can afford to rest easy after the first day.
