CWL New Orleans
Splyce: Tommey, Bance, Jurd, MadCat
eUnited: Clayster, Prestinni, Arcitys, SiLLY
CWL Dallas runners up Splyce came up against the 5-6th place finishers eUnited, and the European vs North America match up did not disappoint.
eUnited overcame the challenge, thanks to winning both Search and Destroy matches, and an incredible individual showing from Arcitys in the game four Hardpoint, winning the series 3-2.
eUnited’s struggles on London Docks hardpoint continued, as they succumbed to a crushing defeat once more just as they had done in their earlier match against Echo Fox. With all four Splyce players well positive in their kills and deaths, their slaying and map pressure was surprisingly a level above the North American’s. Any hints at a comeback were quickly sniffed out, as Splyce cruised to a comfortable 250 – 119 win.
However, in the Search and Destroy eUnited looked much stronger. Now on Saint Marie du Mont, the match started with both teams trading rounds, however, streaks on the side of eUnited help them close out some crucial swing rounds. Splyce had some streaks of their own, but were wasted due to eUnited’s use of the Mountain Division, making them difficult to target from the streaks. eUnited closed the map out with an intelligent offence strategy, perhaps learned from their ‘eUnited cadet’ team, and likely dictated to them from the in game leader Clayster, to win the map 6 – 3.
Returning to London Docks for the map 3 Capture the Flag, some impeccable teamwork, which was captured during a listen in, granted them a 1-0 lead. An impressive defensive hold turned into a counter capture opportunity, and the calm communication allowed the team enter the half with the advantage. Despite some immediate pressure from eUnited to start the second side of CTF, the streaks from Splyce bought them enough time to prevent any idea of a comeback, winning a comfortable 4-0.
The second hardpoint took the match back to Saint Marie du Mont, eUnited looked more comfortable, just as they had done on the same map in the Search and Destroy. Opening up and holding on to a lead, Arcitys personally lapped on score streaks, simply taking over the map with impressive use of the STG. An incredible individual showing allowed eUnited to take the series to the fifth map, with Arcitys personally finished 45-15. Of note, Clayster also tried out a meta-changer, using akimbo pistols and to successful effect with 35 kills.
The deciding map five was a sniper battle, with both Clayster of eU and Jurd of Splyce challenging eachother for the best sniper in the match, with both getting clutch kills with for their teams. Both teams were on point, trading out rounds, but with the teams tied 4-4, eUnited wiped out Splyce in the following two rounds, in the end taking the tightly fought series with a 6-4 victory in the game five.
