Team Liquid, Astralis, and Luminosity became the first casualties of the $750,000 ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals as Group A, or “Group Yellow”, came to a close.
For home town favorites Astralis, things did not improve as they went through the round-robin best-of-one group format, picking up just one victory against the Brazilians of Luminosity.
The Danish team were clearly missing their star AWPer Nicolai ‘device’ Reedtz. They managed to perform well with Dennis ‘dennis’ Edman at BLAST Pro Series, taking a second place overall, but their Odense outing with Ruben ‘RUBINO’ Villarroel did not live up to expectations.
Team Liquid were facing a similar issue as their most recent addition, Lucas ‘steel’ Lopes, was ineligible to play in the tournament which meant that they were forced to use their coach Wilton ‘zews’ Prado.
The only win that the North American side managed to claim was an overtime victory against Astralis on Mirage. Liquid ended up in sixth position with Astralis taking 5th.
The fourth place team was Luminosity – the Brazilians showed some promise in their matches, and actually ended with a positive round difference, but it was not enough to keep them in the tournament.

Of the teams that managed to qualify for the playoffs, FaZe were the clear class of the field. The European team dropped only one map – an overtime loss to Fnatic in the very first match of the tournament.
Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen’s team bounced back to take the top spot in the group at its conclusion, meaning that they will advance directly to the semifinals and skip the quarterfinal stage.
In second position was the biggest surprise team of the tournament so far – HellRaisers. Led by Kirill ‘ANGE1′ Karasiow, HellRaisers utilized a no respect, aggressive style to claim wins over Astralis, Fnatic, and Team Liquid.
Fnatic, the top seeds from Europe scraped through in third position after a truly hot and cold display which saw them defeat FaZe and then get destroyed by HellRaisers. They actually won more games than HellRaisers but earned less points due to the fact that two of those wins were in overtime.
The full Group A results are as follows:
- FaZe Clan – Advance to semifinals
- HellRaisers – Advance to quarterfinals
- Fnatic – Advance to quarterfinals
- Luminosity Gaming
- Team Liquid
