A YouTuber with over 10 million subscribers has survived a home invasion by hiding in his closet in a horrifying incident in Austin, Texas.
Gavin Free is a popular British personality who both co-owns the YouTube channel The Slow Mo Guys and is involved with the Rooster Teeth content creators.
The ABQJournal reported that in late January, Gavin and his girlfriend, Meg Turney, heard someone breaking into their house by smashing windows and firing a weapon.
The suspect, named Christopher Giles by police, was described as single, lonely and disturbed. It’s reported that he had ‘developed a fondness’ for Meg, a YouTuber with over 300,000 subscribers, but disliked her boyfriend Gavin and had recorded threatening thoughts that included saying he wanted the popular personality to die without any children.
When he broke into the house in late January, Gavin and Meg managed to evade the suspect by hiding in their closet and calling 911.
After he was unable to find the couple, he left the house and was approached by the police to stop. The authorities heard a gunshot from the car and opened fire, killing the suspect.
Christopher Giles’ home was since raided with laptops and an Xbox being confiscated. The police wrote this chilling statement in their final report.
“Based upon the known circumstances and investigative findings, your affiant is led to believe that evidence related to the planned burglary and homicides of Megan Turney and Gavin Free will be found.”
At the time of writing neither, Gavin or Meg have released a comment on the situation and appear to have continued to use social media normally since the incident.
