Another YouTuber Has Been Gunned Down by the Mexican Cartel

A Mexican YouTuber, who went by the name 'Nana Pelucas' has been killed in what has been called a drug gang related crime, after her videos supposedly revealed information about the Mexican drug cartels. According to state prosecutors, Nana Pelucas had upset the cartels by discussing their activities in her videos, and as a result was found killed in Acapulco, a coastal city of Mexico. Recongizable by her large wig and glasses, Nana Pelucas, real name Leslie Ann Pamela Montenegro, was killed by a gang whose leader had split from the 'Independent Cartel of Acapulco', as reported by the Associated Press. The shooting took place on Monday 5th February, and Guerrero state prosecutor, Xavier Olea, stated that the killing was carried out because 'inside information' had been revealed about the cartels in her YouTube videos. In the months leading up to the shooting, banners had apparently been displayed publicly, presumably by cartel members, which linked Montenegro to rival groups. Montenegro owned the restaurant where she was killed, after two men entered and shot her in the beach resort of Acapulco. The coastal city was once a popular tourist destination, but has been plagued by rising crime and an alarming homicide rate.

Her channel was called El Sillón Tv, and it's content was comical commentary and criticisms, some of which "concerned local government". AP report that Olea said Javi Daniel Cervantes, a former member of the Acapulco cartel, had ordered the killing. x The Daily Mail also reported that the YouTuber had in the past been accused of being a government informant, and worked to file anonymous accusations about gang members. This is not the first instance of a YouTube or social media personality meeting a fatal end at the hands of cartel violence. In 2017, a 17 year old YouTube star, Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales, also popular on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, was shot 15-18 times while on a night out, after being filmed telling cartel leader 'El Mencho' to "suck his dick".
