Emergency League of Legends update addresses Yuumi’s terrible performance – patch notes

Riot have responded to Yuumi’s poor performance with some emergency buffs for the new League of Legends champion.

Yuumi the Magical Cat is the latest champion to be added to League of Legends, having joined the live servers with Patch 9.10 on May 13.

Designed to be a Support champion, Yuumi’s kit features a unique mechanic that allows her to become Attached to friendly champions, at which point she becomes untargetable by everything except tower damage and her abilities fire from the location of the champion she’s Attached to.

Unfortunately, Yuumi in her launch state seems to have been quite noticeably underpowered, with the first day of her release seeing just a 29.71% win rate in ranked games at Platinum or above.

While some players have argued there are problems with Yuumi’s kit itself, for many it’s simply a case of her abilities not being powerful enough, meaning that she’s unable to contribute enough poke damage and sustain healing to properly support her team, especially considering her own small health pool.

Riot GamesYuumi hasn’t had much success in her initial release state.

Part of the lack of success with Yuumi is likely to be born of inexperience – playing a brand-new champion in most cases is going to be less likely to succeed in any case, and that seems particularly true of a champion who relies not only on the player themselves understanding how to best utilize their kit, but also on their lane duo playing around it properly.

Nevertheless, it seems that Riot do agree that a sub-30% win rate is a bit extreme, and they’ve moved quickly to respond with a hotfix that applies buffs to almost every aspect of Yuumi’s kit.

It’s still likely that Riot will make additional balance adjustments in the next major update, but in the meantime these buffs should give players a chance to try out Yuumi without being so concerned about how it might limit their chances of victory.

League of Legends May 15 Patch notes:

We’re looking to give Yuumi a boost to her early game that will help both experienced and inexperienced Yuumi players.
