GTA Online update finally adds Formula 1 cars and Open Wheel races

David Purcell

Rockstar Games have finally made Formula 1 cars available to purchase in Grand Theft Auto 5 and that’s not all: there are some brand new F1 races to come with them.

The game’s developers always shake up the GTA Online experience on a weekly basis, adding new vehicles, limited-time events and rewards.

However, the contents of the February 27 update might be the most sought after since the reveal of the Diamond Casino & Resort last year – which saw record numbers of players return to the game. High-end race cars are here, according to information from TexFunz2, and for the first time in the series’ history, we can buy them.

GTA players could previously grab F1 cars on the Lucky Wheel, where each account is given one spin per day with a chance to win.

Formula 1 cars have previously been added to GTA 5 through PC mods and most recently by Rockstar sticking the Progen PR4 on the Casino podium to be won via the Lucky Wheel.

Now, though, the game’s latest update has made them available to purchase and race, which means those of us who have saved up the GTA cash to grab one can finally get behind the wheel.

How much are Formula 1 cars in GTA Online?

The cars that have been made available are the Progen PR4 and the Ocelot R88. These are the first two to have been released, although many will be expecting further drops in the future too.

As expected, both are supremely expensive to buy and can be viewed in-game via the Legendary Motorsport application on your iFruit phone. The PR4 costs a whopping $3,515,000, while the R88 will set you back a hefty $3,115,000 too.

So, let’s take a look at them.

Progen PR4

The Progen PR4 will be familiar with GTA players already. In fact, some may already have won one on the Lucky Wheel.

Ocelot R88

The Ocelot R88 is one of the quickest cars GTA Online has ever added.

New GTA Open Wheel race series

Those who decide to buy them will also be able to take part in brand new Open Wheel races, which were added on February 27 as part of the content update. Open Wheel races and Mobile Operations Center missions will be offering double payouts and XP rewards for a limited time.

That’s not all, either. There’s also a new car been added to the Lucky Wheel rewards, the Maxwell Gradant, as well as a number of discounts and rewards for players to dig through.

Rockstar are yet to officially reveal blog posts to confirm the finer details of the additions made in this new patch, although once that’s made available to us we’ll update this article with further information.
