The best Gears of War teams from around the world descended on the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans over the weekend July 13 – 15 for a $250,000 open tournament.

After OpTic Gaming had finally been dethroned at the last major open in Las Vegas, where Ghost Gaming took 1st, the Gears competitive scene was suddenly blown wide open.

A number of very high profile roster moves, which included OpTic Gaming themselves, blew it open ever further, as numerous powerhouse teams formed from the fallout.

Former OG players Icy and KennyBounce moved over to rivals Echo Fox, and the much anticipated Rise Nation roster as well as eUnited also hoped to use their advantage of team experience of the newer rosters.

But it wasn’t just the North American teams with aspirations of glory in New Orleans, with the former FableEU roster now org-less, they performed under their own branding “EUsFinest”, and were expected to be the top EU team challenging.

On the LATAM front, OpTic Gaming’s newly acquired Mexican roster were the big news, as fans anticipated a strong performance under the GreenWall brand.

After reigning champions Ghost Gaming were eliminated by Echo Fox, it was their turn to challenge OpTic Gaming in the grand final.

OpTic looked back to their best however, and even taking on their former teammates Icy and KennyBounce in the final, showed that the GreenWall is still the top team in Gears esports.
