Gears of War esports is heading to Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge for the EGL London Open on June 9-10.

After a successful outing in Sheffield, Gears developer The Coalition and European Gaming League again join forces to bring the competition to the capital of England.

The London Open will take place at Under the Bridge, a prestigious venue within the home grounds of the 2016/2017 Premier League champions and regarded for cultural events including live music.

The tournament will offer a $20,000 prize pool and distribute 68,000 Gears Pro Points, with up to thirty-two teams competing through a double-elimination bracket to claim the lion’s share of both rewards.

Pro Points not only determine seedings for Gears Pro Circuit events – the next of which takes place in New Orleans from the 13th to 15th of July – but also which teams leapfrog rivals to begin their campaign from pool play at major tournaments, therefore avoiding the perils of the open bracket gauntlet.

Fable EU has already sewn up the top seed but Europe’s second pool play allocation for the $250,000 New Orleans Open is still up for grabs

North America largely dominates the upper echelons of Gears of War – a trend seen in other console first-person shooter esports – but that doesn’t mean Europe is without elite contenders. Indeed, Fable Esports EU claimed second-place at the Las Vegas Open and swept through EGL Sheffield to maintain order on home soil. EGL London will offer fans and rivals another chance to see this legitimately world-class team in action ahead of their return to the international stage in July.

For Gears of War players looking to try their hand against some of Europe’s best, there’s still time to sign up – registration doesn’t close until June 7, and so any teams looking to make the trip at the last minute have a few more days to book their spot.
