Grand Theft Auto V roleplay servers have returned to popularity on Twitch thanks to a number of top streamers returning to the game. But what actually is it? We’ve got the lowdown for you.

The multiplayer mod, which is different from the normal GTA Online mode, allows players to act out their own story in whatever fashion they want, affecting how the fictional city of Los Santos and its inhabitants, both actual players and NPCs, operate.

However, it can still be a confusing world to outsiders. So, here’s everything you need to know about GTA V RP.

Rockstar GamesPlayers can create whatever story they want in GTA V RP.

What is GTA V RP?

GTA V roleplay is a multiplayer mod for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. Players who jump into one of the user-created RP servers becomes even more immersed in the game – as they take on the form of a normal NPC, which can be customized in a number of different ways.

The level of roleplay depends on the server. Some servers are completely hardcore roleplaying – which means players are skirting the rules if they ask for tips on how to access the game’s menus or even the button that corresponds to an action.

Twitch: LirikLirik was one of the key players in helping the mod grow.

Can it be played by anyone?

Anyone with a copy of the game on PC can play, but it is significantly different from the normal multiplayer mode that is built into Rockstar’s hugely popular title.

As we say, GTA RP is a multiplayer mod and can only be accessed via modified games clients like FiveM and Grand Theft Multiplayer. Once there, you can join an RP server some communities require an invite – which players gain by proving themselves as a talented role-player.

How to join a GTA V RP server?

One of the most popular GTA V role play servers, run by NoPixel, is currently closed to applications because of the overwhelming number of new applicants.

Since GTA V RP suddenly started getting popular again on Twitch, players have been eager to get in on the action, but with over 4,000 applications now backed up, NoPixel has had to close it for the time being.

Even once you are accepted to a server, you will likely be placed on the very end of the queue, and can only move up it by proving yourself as a ‘good’ RP player (i.e. staying in character and not ruining it for others).

It’s not always a simple process to get in to a GTA V RP server.

Who plays GTA RP?

A number of big streamers have recently jumped back into the mod but a dedicated community has remained since the popularity of the game spiked in 2017.

On March 10, Jaryd ‘Summit1g’ Lazar had a hilarious broadcast that saw him cover almost everything in the game – including a NSFW interaction with a police officer after he had been locked up in jail.

Fellow streamer Saqib ‘Lirik’ Zahid has also been known to dabble in the mod with his Avon Barksdale character – taking inspiration from the critically acclaimed TV series, The Wire.

Whether the mod stays trendy with big Twitch streamers remains to be seen – but a dedicated community, spread over a number of servers, maintains a healthy player base.

Before jumping into the action yourself, if you’re tempted, it’s advisable to spend some time watching others play, so you can become accustomed to the norms and expectations of the roleplaying mod.

Overwatch player discovers secret counter to Mei’s Cryo-Freeze

Mei’s Cryo-Freeze has to be one of the most annoying abilities in Overwatch, granting the hero complete invincibility for its duration. Now, a player has discovered a brilliant trick to counter the ice-themed hero.

In Overwatch, there are few abilities as unique as Cryo-Freeze. It places Mei inside of an ice cube that heals her and cleanses any status effects such as Ana’s biotic grenade.

However, the most annoying thing about the ability is how it makes Mei completely invulnerable. For the few seconds she has it activated, she can survive anything from point-blank D.Va bombs to Sigma’s Gravitic Flux.

Some players have found ways to “time” abilities so they connect with Mei as she exits her ice cube cocoon, such as Tracer’s Pulse Bomb or a Reinhardt charge. However, this tactic is reliant on the Mei using Cryo-Freeze’s whole duration. If she cancels it early, then there’s a chance that she’ll end up surviving or dodging the oncoming attack.

Mei’s ice block is extremely powerful.

Luckily, a new technique has been discovered which should make countering Mei a breeze. As shown by Reddit user bleubey, Junkrat can actually place his trap directly on top of Mei’s ice cube.

This trick should guarantee that the Chinese environmentalist hero gets trapped and is extremely vulnerable to any attacks. With any luck, you can even catch the Mei player completely off-guard and force out her ultimate.

That exact thing happened in bleubey’s clip. After coming out of the cube, the Mei found herself trapped and ended up wasting her Blizzard in the process, only to be taken out of the picture by a damage-boosted Junkrat grenade.

I find it amusing that you can put a junk trap on top of Mei’s head while she’s an ice cube from Overwatch

Users on the site were shocked to see that such a trick even existed. “I’m almost gold border and I never knew this,” wrote marioaprooves.

“I’m GM and I never knew this sh*t. Holy f**k,” stated another, clearly shocked at what they had witnessed.

Mei has a lot of tricks up her sleeve.

Bleubey responded in turn that they only found out by complete accident, proving that such a tactic really went under the radar for a long time.

The next time there is a Mei giving your team trouble, try swapping to Junkrat and taking her out with this neat trap hat maneuver.
