Apex Legends devs Respawn Entertainment making new game set in “unique universe”

Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind hit multiplayer FPS Apex Legends, is working on a new title. Apparently, the devs are producing a single-player adventure game set in a “unique universe.”

According to a recent string of new job listings, highlighted by Creative Director Mohammad Alavi, the good people at Respawn Entertainment have something brewing. While it’s not the news Titanfall fans were hoping for, it is intriguing nonetheless.

Respawn are best known for the Titanfall franchise, the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and multiplayer experiences like Apex, which are rooted in the studio’s history with Call of Duty. This new title is therefore a different direction, at least in some ways.

Carrying the legacy of Titanfall’s unique backdrop and single-player campaigns, the untitled new IP is slated to be an adventure game without multiplayer offerings. Alavi is the first person tied to the project, as he tweeted about it with some job listings.

As Alavi explains, his team is all about “dreaming big and making splashes.” That vibe is intrinsically tied into the game’s descriptions, as the job openings describe the game in similar fashion.

Most notably, the listing describes the game as “a designer’s dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits.”

Further details in the listings emphasize that the dev team is all about “a ‘fun comes first’ sensibility in a design process that allows creativity and new ideas to shine.”

Apex has a pretty wild world of its own.

Apex Legends, the most popular of Respawn’s current offerings, is beloved by its fans for the diversity of its characters and environments — which shape a unique playing experience. If that’s anything to work off of, then people should be intrigued by what “unique universe” means to this kind of studio.

At the moment, this project is “in its early stages,” so details are scarce. But, like eager fans of Respawn titles everywhere, we will stay on the lookout and provide updates when they become available.
