Former professional Overwatch player, Felix "xQc" Lengyel wasn't impressed by competitive Fortnite after watching the $1.5 million tournament at PAX West, criticizing the gameplay.
xQc previously played in the Overwatch League, with Team Envy owned Dallas Fuel, before controversies led to his release. But, it doesn't look like he will be attempting to go pro in Fortnite any time soon.
After the 'Summer Skirmish' event, which saw unknown player 'Morgausse' win $250,000 for 1st place, xQc give a harsh review of the pro players competing.
Comparing Fortnite to other competitive titles, xQc blasted the way that players would move around the map passively, hiding near the edge of the storm circle.
"Last time I checked, these competitive games, esports with high skill cap, people used to move, shoot, duck, use abilities properly, switch weapons properly, do hard switches, target switches, strategic moves.
I watched these piece of shit Fortnite tournaments, and all I see is a bunch of fucking pussies, hidden two meters from the zone, in their small built wooden fort, peeking through the cracks in the window.
So fucking boring. It's like they're playing hide and seek, in built forts made out of wood planks and bricks and metal. So boring."
While xQc isn't the only one who has been critical of Fortnite gameplay at the highest level, the viewing numbers for the tournament tell a different story.
Over 600,000 concurrent viewers were tuning in during the Summer Skirmish' final matches, so despite the very passive gameplay on show a times, clearly many don't find it 'boring' like xQc does.
Epic Games, developers of Fortnite, could still stand to make the incentives for aggressive gameplay more significant through, by rewarding more for eliminations, to prevent the overly passive playstyle sometimes on show.
