TSM Daequan was a surprising absentee from the Fortnite competition at PAX West.
The PAX competition doubled as Week 8 of the Fortnite Summer Skirmish series, where he was a regular competitor.
Daequan answered the question of a fan who asked why he did not go to PAX.
He opened with a joke, but then gave a very serious answer.
My Aunt passed unexpectedly.
He also referenced the benefits of streaming while most other Fortnite streamers are away from their computers at PAX.
I get more out of not going to PAX then I do going to PAX.
Daequan is a professional Fortnite player and content creator for Team SoloMid, an organization that fields teams in multiple esports.
TSM Daequan competed in Week 6 of the Summer Skirmish, finishing in the money at 19th place with his partner p90princess.
He also grabbed a top 10 placing as as solo player in the first official Summer Skirmish.
Epic Games shifted to PAX for the final week of the competition and invited all attendees of the convention to participate. Professional players, like Daequan, could be invited to skip the first round.
The tournament will take place over four days, concluding on September 4.
