The winner of the Fortnite World Cup was able to bring home $3 million, surpassing the totals of tournaments like Wimbledon, The Masters and the PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods, Novak Djokovic, and Brooks Koepka are some the biggest names in their respective sports and millions tune in to watch them perform each time they compete.

However, that didn’t stop 16-year-old Fortnite phenom Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf from coming in as a relatively unknown player and taking home the coveted grand prize.

ESPN posted a graphic revealing that Bugha’s prize was bigger than many major tournament wins in 2019, some of them by a huge margin.

Tiger Woods was only able to bring home a little over $2 million in his Masters win in April, which was a monumental milestone for the golf pro as it was his first Major championship since 2008’s U.S. Open.

For those out there who are unaware of the draw that esports has, seeing this graphic comparing the prize winnings can be jaw-dropping.

Fortnite boasted the largest prize pool seen in esports at the time of the World Cup and Epic will hope to keep that rolling into the inevitable second World Cup. Keep in mind that most other esports don’t come to a prize pool this large.

On top of this, the prize money won’t stop coming for Fortnite players despite the World Cup being finished.

During the July 28 broadcast, Epic Games announced the competitive circuit coming to the game in Season 10 called the Fortnite Championship series.

This new series will run the length of the season and let fans once again prove to their competitors who the best Fortnite players are.

Epic haven’t revealed a whole lot about how this series will work but it’s clear they are interested in keeping esports alive and consistently increasing the prize pool.
