That said, there are still some things worth noting about v10.40.1, and you can find the full patch notes below.

Out of Time event

Epic Games officially confirmed the Season 10 Overtime event, which will be called the ‘Out of Time Missions’, giving players some end-of-season rewards including XP to help bump up your ranks and earn stars for your Battle Pass, brand new cosmetics and a special loading screen to commemorate the popular battle royale title’s tenth season.

The Out of Time Missions will be available from Tuesday, October 8 until Sunday, October 13, and while developers Epic Games refrained from revealing the challenges players will be asked to complete, data miners have already given us a sneak peek at what we can expect.

Epic GamesPlayers can earn cosmetic rewards by completing the Out of Time Mission.

Fortnite Season X extended

Flint-Knock Pistol unvaulted

Fans of the popular battle royale game will be able to get their hands on a weapon that was previously removed from the game, with the developers reintroducing the Flint-Knock pistol to the loot pool in the v10.40.1 update.

The Flint-Knock was originally added to Fortnite back in March 2019, and deals 86/90 damage to opponents from close range, although there is a “significant damage falloff” the further away you are from an enemy. The weapon knocks back the shooter when fired, and sends those who are hit with it flying if they are in close proximity to the gun when shot. You can crouch to avoid the affects of the pistol should you not want want go bouncing away when you fire it.

Epic GamesThe Flint-Knock Pistol returns in the v10.40.1 update.

What to expect from v10.40.1 update?

With this patch seemingly being a minor one, all indications are that it won’t be adding anything big or making any significant changes to the battle royale title.

There doesn’t appear to be a new weapon, item, or vehicle being introduced via this update, as the in-game message screen normally announces those types of things ahead of time.

Epic have confirmed that the file size will be larger for the Nintendo Switch, which could mean that they’re implementing some fixes for FPS issues that were causing the game to be “unplayable” according to numerous player reports on social media.

There is still a chance that some map changes could be implemented via this patch, although it probably won’t be something as big as a new Rift Zone.

Instead, Epic could add stuff to the map having to do with the leaked ‘The End’ event in Fortnite, which is rumored to be the in-game spectacle that concludes Season 10 and launches 11.

Epic Games‘The End’ event in Fortnite could be further hinted at with potential map changes in the v10.40.1 update.
