Fortnite testing out a major change to gliders in all modes

Epic Games have announced that they are testing out a new way for gliders to operate in Fortnite Battle Royale – allowing players to re-deploy them at any time, in all modes.

Currently, gliders can only be used during a number of specific points in a match – right at the beginning when falling from the battle bus, or when using a launch pad or rift.

The only exception to this is the ‘Soaring’ LTM’s, which have increased launch pads and rifts, and also allow players to use their glider whenever they jump from a certain height.

It turns out that these Soaring LTM’s were in fact a test for Epic’s plans in the future, as they are now rolling out a test to allow glider re-deploys in all modes, not just the Soaring LTM’s.

The only requirement will be that you are three stories high, which means that you should almost never take fall damage.

In the v6.20 update, we’ll be adding the glider re-deploy mechanic from Soaring 50’s into all game modes. You’ll be able to hop into a Solo, Duo or Squad match as per usual, but now you will be able to re-deploy your glider when you are at least three stories high.

The test will run for a full week, as Epic Games want to see how “providing a singular mobility mechanic that all players can use will affect regular gameplay.”

It is a similar mechanic to the one provided in Call of Duty’s new Blackout mode, which also allows players to deploy their wingsuit at any time during a match, when dropping from a certain height.

It should at least save repeat fall damage offenders like TSM player Myth from anymore embarrassing self-eliminations!
