UPDATE (June 28th, 10:55 AM EST): Epic Games announced via Reddit that they will be making ‘major improvements’ to their matchmaking service to help bring back Playground Mode, and are hoping that it will go live ‘later today’ (Thursday, June 28th.)

“Heya folks,
Yesterday we launched the Playground LTM. So many of you rushed in to create and play that our matchmaking service fell over. We’ve since separated the Playground matchmaker from the one that affects the default modes and made large improvements to assist with the number of players. We plan to push these changes and improvements live later today to bring the Playground LTM back online. We’ll give you more updates and a timeline as soon as we have one.
Thanks.”

There was extra hype surrounding the v4.5 update in Fortnite on June 27th, as it was to launch the highly anticipating Playground Limited Time Mode.

However, much to the chagrin of the game’s vast player-base, the LTM was disabled merely hours after its release due to issues in matchmaking services.

While it initially seemed that the delay was not going to be for too long, it now appears that players will have to wait much longer before they can try out the Playground.

Epic Games announced on June 27th via Twitter and Reddit that the new mode was to remain disabled through the night as their team worked through some of the issues.

We know you want to get back out to the Playground LTM. We’ve got multiple teams working to get this mode back into your hands so you can let your imaginations run wild.  We want to inform you that the Playground LTM will remain closed for repairs for the night. We’ll have more information available tomorrow.

While “for the night” is a relatively ambiguous estimated period of time, this likely means that the new LTM will be available for players to enjoy sometime during June 28th.

However, queue times could potentially become rather long during the early moments of its reinstatement, especially if it is enabled during a time of the day when there are a lot of players online.

Launched alongside the v4.5 update early on June 27th, the Playground LTM offers players the chance to play alongside their friends and do whatevery they like in a private, low-pressure environment with the full Fortnite map at their disposal.

For full details on the new mode, you can read its description as provided by Epic Games in the v4.5 patch notes here.
