Epic Games have once again temporarily disabled the new Shadow Stones item in Fortnite Battle Royale due to an unforeseen issue.

The announcement of this in-game change came via a post on the official Fortnite Twitter page on September 28, and was effective immediately.

“Due to an issue with Shadow Stones, they have been temporarily disabled” read the tweet.

As of now, it is unclear what the issue is with the Shadow Stones, but it must be considerable if the developers feel the need to disable it while the issue is being addressed.

This is the second time in as many days that Epic have disabled the Shadow Stones. They were enabled back into the game briefly on September 28, before being taken out again.

What are Shadow Stones?

Shadow Stones are a new type of consumable item that were added in Fortnite on September 27 via the v6.0 update, kick-starting Season 6 in the popular battle royale title.

Found in ‘corrupted’ areas of the map, Shadow Stones temporarily apply ‘Shadow Form’ to players, allowing them to become invisible to enemies while stationary as well as gain increased movement speed, jump height, and fall damage immunity.

Additionally, players who consume the item gain a new ability called Phase, which can be activated by pressing the Primary Fire button. Phase allows players to propel forward in the direction they are facing, as well as pass through objects.
