Epic Games has announced a 'Blitz Solo Showdown' Limited Time Mode which will be the second competitive playlist implemented into Fortnite: Battle Royale since its launch.
Following the announcement in mid-May that Epic Games will put $100 million in prize money up for grabs between 2018 and 2019 for competitive Fortnite tournaments, everyone has been attempting to get in on the action.
Although, without any dedicated private servers or a cemented ruleset, the esports side of Fortnite is still in its infancy and will take some time before the game is recognized as a premium contender in the industry.
With this in mind, Epic Games created the 'Solo Showdown' LTM in May, which was a special, in-game playlist that tracked the progress of those that played, and rewarded the top 100 competitors in each region with a collection of V-Bucks.
On June 1st, the developer announced the return of Solo Showdown, however, the mode will feature the 'Blitz' style of play including faster storms, high-speed gameplay, and more, along with eliminations now factoring into the final score.
Blitz Showdown will last until Monday, June 4th at 10:00 AM EST (7:00 AM PST, 3:00 PM BST), with more information on the mode able to be found below.
We received great suggestions and advice for Solo Showdown over the course of the competitive LTM from players all over the world who participated. The Fortnite team also has a few fun stats to share from the Solo Showdown LTM.
We’re pumped to bring our players another competitive experience with a new Limited Time Mode: Blitz Showdown.*
Blitz Showdown picks up on the pace and speed. Circles will be faster, combat more rapid, and eliminations now factor into the final scores. After 25 games, you will be scored based on each match’s placement and eliminations. And we’ll be rewarding 100 players this time per server region! (NAE and NAW will be counted as one server region.)
Expect ‘Showdown’ Limited Time Modes to serve as a test of your survival talent. We’ll continue to make adjustments to future Showdown matches. Additionally, we’re looking to grow opportunities for all types of players to challenge their skills in their own way. We’ll be exploring different Showdown formats on a regular basis in the future.
