In a Reddit post, Fortnite’s Senior Technical Designer Aaron Eady confirmed that Epic Games had been working on custom controller layouts for the game, and intended to include the new feature in a future update.

In the comment, Eady states that, while they’re aware that the custom bindings have taken a long time, Epic felt it was important to take the time to work on them:

“Unfortunately, it’s not a easy thing to go from not having custom bindings to then creating the system to have custom bindings. We do have amazing talent here at Epic that make things look easy sometimes, but something that changes inputs into our game shouldn’t be rushed.”

Eady also confirmed that Epic are planning to shorten the length of time players need to hold down the edit button before they are allowed to use the function.

Currently, the edit hold timing is 0.25 seconds, but Epic plans to bring that down to 0.2 seconds, and down to 0.15 seconds on the Builder Pro configuration.

News of these future updates will certainly please fans of the battle royale franchise. Fortnite players have long been calling for the ability to bind certain actions to their controller like PC players are able to with their mouse or keyboard.

While there is no set release date for these additions, Eady did mention that they hope to push them out in the next major update to the game.
