An Xbox One exclusive Fortnite Battle Royale tournament worth $1,000,000 could be in the works, if apparent screenshots from the console’s marketplace are to be believed.

As one of the most popular games around, Fortnite’s competitive player base grows by the day – with plenty of cash prizes on offer to the top players. Some professionals have already earned over $500,000 through tournaments and with the Fortnite World Cup on the horizon, there is even more money up for grabs.

However, another particular tournament has taken the interest of Fortnite players, especially those who drop into games of the popular battle royale title using an Xbox One.

WinFutureFortnite have already linked up with Xbox for an exclusive console and skin bundle.

On July 11, Redditor nick_21b posted a screenshot to the FortniteCompetitive subreddit that seemed to show the Xbox Marketplace advertising a future Fortnite solos tournament.

Confused by what they’d saw, nick_21b, titled the post ‘anyone know what this is?’ clearly looking for input from the community. Of course, a number of posters suggested that it was fake but others pointed to previous comments from Epic Games that may give validity to the post.

The possibility of these types of tournaments was hinted at back on May 31, when members of the Epic Games team held an Ask Us Anything on the FortniteCompetitive subreddit.

“We will be running a few console/mobile specific tournaments in the future, but the majority of tournaments and Arena will continue to be mixed,” stated Colin ‘skyzyn’ Fogle, Epic Games’ competitive design lead.

Yet, since that AMA, Epic have not made any suggestion about the possibility of expanding on that post.

A lack of a follow-up makes sense considering they recently had a two-week summer break and the majority of their competitive focus will presumably be on the World Cup event on July 26.

Outside of the Xbox store screenshot, not much is known about the details surrounding the possible solos tournament.

With the build-up to the Fortnite World Cup well underway, and that being the in the jewel in the competitive crown, it is quite possible that Xbox players will have to wait just a little longer before hosting the first console-only event.
