Sony Issues a Statement Following Backlash Regarding PS4 ‘Cross-Play’ for Fortnite
Sony has released a statement in regards to backlash concerning their stance on ‘cross-platform’ play for Fortnite: Battle Royale.
As one of the most popular titles in the world at the time of writing, a major aspect of Fortnite has been its ‘free-to-play’ nature across platforms such as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.

Epic Games has also allowed for a collection of ‘cross-play’ options between platforms, with Xbox players being able to team up with those on PC and a variety of other examples, however, users on PlayStation have only been able to play with or against those on PC.
Sony has remained firm on not allowing PS4 players to play with those on Xbox, with the ‘cross-play’ situation arising yet again after reports that it will not be permitted with the Nintendo Switch either.

Following the most recent backlash, Sony issued a statement to the BBC mentioning how they are interested in listening to the PlayStation community and are ‘always open’ to possibly ‘enhancing the gaming experience,’ although, they do not have anything else to add ‘at this time.’
“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. With more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms. We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point.”

As of writing, it is unknown if Sony has any plans to change their policy on ‘cross-play’ in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
