Russian esports organization Virtus.pro has come under heavy fire on social media after a meme was posted to their Twitter account that many deemed to have gone too far.

Esports organizations are no strangers to using popular memes on social media in an effort to gain a following and set themselves apart from others.

While the practice is widely accepted by most everyone in the esports world, sometimes memes can go too far, as Virtus.pro did with their use of a gang bang meme on October 25.

While the tweet was deleted soon after posting, Paul Chaloner was quick to grab a screenshot of it along with expressing his reservations on the Tweet, saying he’s “not entirely sure a pro team should be tweeting something like this.”

For the uninitiated, the meme in question is one that originated from adult movies, featuring five men standing in front of a petite female, who usually looks rather worried.

To drive that point home, popular esports photographer Robert Paul even noted sarcastically that “The watermark from the porn site they grabbed the base image from is a nice touch.”

Chaloner wasn’t the only one to condemn the tweet, as Cloud9 Founder and CEO Jack Etienne was quick to say how he would be handling the situation if this had happened at Cloud9.

At the time of writing, Virtus.pro has yet to release an official response, although Roman Dvoryankin, the team’s General Manager, did respond to Chaloner saying that he apologized on behalf of Virtus.pro while agreeing that the tweet was “unacceptable.”

All eyes in the esports community are now on Virtus.pro as people are calling on the organization to issue an official response.
