YouTuber Tana Mongeau makes controversial debut on Twitch

Tana Mongeau, a YouTuber with over 3.7 million subscribers, has started a Twitch channel, and her first ever livestream prompted some very mixed opinions.

Over 2018, many YouTubers decided to extend their brand on to Twitch, as livestreaming became more mainstream, with viewership and revenue opportunities increasing.

The likes of Casey Neistat and Logan Paul both tried their hand at Twitch streaming, although neither have fully embraced the platform yet, and now Tana Mongeau is the next big name YouTuber to sign up on the platform.

2018 was a rocky year for Mongeau, to say the least. Her ‘TanaCon’ event was a disaster, leaving thousands of fans stranded outside the convention center in the Los Angeles summer sun, wasting money on flights, accommodation and tickets, after the event was shutdown before it really began.

Already a controversial figure, many of Mongeau’s own fans turned on her after the TanaCon incident, and the resulting documentary by Shane Dawson, and her growth on YouTube has stunted – gaining less than 200,000 subscribers since July 2018.

So, Twitch could be another avenue for her to rejuvenate her brand, saying it “will be my new thing” – and viewers of her second ever broadcast had some ideas in mind:

Many of her fans were happy to see Tana try something new, but not everyone was pleased with the controversial star’s arrival on the platform.

Many on social media and Reddit were not so welcoming, with one user complaining: “As if we didn’t have enough trash people on this platform.” and Twitter was reliably mixed in its reception.

But Tana has never been one to allow others dictate her decisions in the internet realm, so if she is determined to make it big on Twitch, the doubters will likely make little difference to her.

She will need to be mindful of Twitch’s strict community guidelines however, as Mongeau is known to have tested the boundaries on YouTube in the past.
