Here’s why PewDiePie was banned from Roblox

Massively popular children’s game ‘Roblox’ has reinstated YouTube star Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg, after banning him and all mention of his username from their platform following his stream to beat Bollywood label T-Series.

A post on Roblox’s developer forums explained PewDiePie’s ban as relating to a recent, “negative” meme from December, which included the word, “pewdie.”

The post went on to claim that PewDiePie’s legacy account had been unfairly banned, as the game only meant to ban new accounts with usernames containing the offending phrase.

A post on the Roblox forums claims that PewDiePie’s ban was a mistake, stemming from a “negative” meme containing the phrase “pewdie.”

“The legacy account that PewDiePie used in his livestream was incorrectly banned as part of the administration of this policy,” the post reads. “His legacy account is being reinstated.”

However, many players aren’t buying Roblox’s explanation, as few search results exist within the game’s forums concerning the meme.

Additionally, a post allegedly written by a Roblox staff member from January 2019 claimed that any content related to PewDiePie would be banned, “due to his content redirecting to unsafe and inappropriate sites/channels, as well as continued inappropriate behavior.”

PewDiePie’s ban came shortly after his unannounced livestream of the game on February 11, in a last-ditch effort to beat out T-Series for the most subscribers on YouTube.

Pewds wasn’t the only one affected by the ban, either; other accounts were likewise banned for using the word ‘PewDiePie’ in chats, while one user was banned for uploading a photo of a shirt that read, “Sub to PewDiePie.”

PewDiePie later decried Roblox’s actions in a video, noting the irony of his ban in light of the success of his stream for the game, which saw over 15,000 concurrent players in his server.
