Social media star Charli D’Amelio has responded to Khaby Lame overtaking her on TikTok, and becoming the most followed person on the entire app, saying she’s “proud of him.”

18-year-old Charli D’Amelio has been making TikTok videos since 2019, and in the years she has been on the platform she has become one of its biggest stars, with over 142 million followers.

However, throughout 2021, Italy-based TikToker Khaby Lame began rapidly rising through the ranks, overtaking many of TikTok’s biggest stars thanks to his viral comedy videos.

For months, fans predicted that Khaby was set to overtake Charli, and on June 23, he finally surpassed the dancer and became the most-followed creator on TikTok.

Many fans have been wondering about what Charli thinks of now being the second most-followed account on the app, and on a panel with Lightricks at VidCon, Charli responded to Khaby’s huge moment.

“I had No. 1 for two years. I feel like it’s time for someone else to have that spot, and I’m proud of him,” Charli told the audience. “He’s a friend, and there’s no bad blood, I promise you guys.”

Charli had high praise for the hugely popular TikToker, and revealed she’s glad to see Khaby in the top spot. She went on to say: “It feels great to know that someone else is getting that spot, someone that is sweet and a good person and loves what they do. I think that that’s the best feeling, and I wouldn’t want to hand it over to anyone else.”

Khaby is continuing to storm ahead as even more people follow the TikToker for his funny videos, with the star now sitting at 144 million followers.
