Cosplay is one of the most creative art forms on the planet, and it can be amazing to discover what costume artists are able to cook up – sometimes it’s just uncanny how realistic it can be.

One Pokémon cosplayer decided to design a patchwork outfit based off the lonely monster Mimikyu, and it’s actually terrifying. Prepare for some bad dreams tonight.

Patchwork Mimikyu

While the critter is a little bit scary as is, cosplayer Emily from Patchwork Cosplay decided to take it to the next level with its creepy factor, and brought the Pokémon to life… Literally.

The monster’s disguise appears to be made out of hessian – a coarse fabric usually used to make sacks and bags – and is stitched together in patchwork fashion, with stuffing pouring out of the head in places.

This really adds to the eerie nature of the costume, and makes for a character you definitely wouldn’t want to see standing at the end of your bed in the middle of the night.

Despite being downright terrifying, the cosplay does manage to capture the monster’s true spirit, and is possibly one of the most lifelike costumes we’ve ever seen.

Who is Mimikyu?

Mimikyu is described as a “lonely” Fairy/Ghost type Pokémon who wears a Pikachu disguise to hide its true identity, although it is believed that the veil is also worn as protection as the monster is weakened by sunlight.

In a sad twist, the critter’s costume is modeled after Pikachu because it feels as though it will be more approachable and able to make friends if it isn’t in its own form.

The Pokémon was first introduced with Generation VII in the Sun and Moon games for the Nintendo 3DS, and has no current known evolution form – though who knows for the future.

One of the games’ Pokédex description reads “Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock”, making Emily’s cosplay of the monster so much more terrifying.
