Warzone expert reveals forgotten Cold War AR that’s meta after Season 4 buff

Warzone expert WhosImmortal has outlined the Black Ops Cold War AUG assault rifle as a “meta” weapon following its Season 4 buff, even though its pick-rate remains incredibly low.

Warzone’s fourth season began on June 22, bringing a wealth of changes to the battle royale. It saw the most meta weapons nerfed and a number of others buffed to try and balance out an imperfect weapon pool.

We’ve also seen supplementary patches since then, with the July 1 update weakening the dominant NZ-41 and H4 Blixen considerably.

As such, players are scratching around for the next meta weapon and, according to Warzone content creator WhosImmortal, it could well be the completely forgotten Black Ops Cold War AUG.

The NZ-41 has been nerfed heavily in Warzone.

In a July 2 YouTube video, the creator outlined the AUG’s impressive damage and TTK, despite its pick-rate being amongst the lowest in the game. It currently sits at a pick-rate just above 0.1%, paling in comparison to weapons like the MP40 or STG44, which sit between 5% and 10%.

However, delving a little deeper reveals a gun that kills as quickly as some of the game’s most-used guns and, with minimal recoil and excellent range, can be a medium to long-range monster so long as players can dispense bullets accurately.

“Through the first 40 meters the AUG is not really anything that crazy,” he said. “Then, over range, the AUG has the lack of a damage drop off and it actually becomes the second-best [TTK] on this list.”

He then built his favored loadout, making the Cold War AUG incredibly strong at medium to longer ranges.

Best AUG Loadout for Warzone Season 4

  • Muzzle: Agency Silencer
  • Barrel: 17″ Titanium
  • Optic: Axial Arms 3x
  • Underbarrel: Field Agent Foregrip
  • Magazine: 45 Rnd Drum

Because of its real strength lying in medium to longer ranges, the AUG is best used as your main weapon, with a close-range option in the back pocket. Something like the MP40 or Marco 5 is probably best in Warzone’s current version.

The combination of both, in the right hands, will be lethal.
