New Zombies ‘Portals’ Could Be Coming to CoD: Black Ops 4 ‘Blackout’ During Special DLC Weekends

It appears as though new Zombies related content could be coming to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 ‘Blackout’ battle royale mode during certain weekends.

David Vonderhaar, Game Design Director at Treyarch, took to social media on September 10 to hint that new Zombies ‘portals’ could be added to  Blackout.

These portals, which would be found only in locations that spawn Zombies, would essentially allow players to teleport from one part of the map to the area.

Vonderhaar’s tweet came in the form of a poll intended to gauge the players’ interest in this sort of thing. As of now, 60% of voters think it’s a good idea, while 40% say ‘No. Just no.”

If this feature is added to Blackout, it would implement a new strategic layer to the game. Players would now have a way to quickly escape the dangers of the gas and find safety, even if they may have been hopelessly far from the safe zone.

It would also offer a way hop around different Zombie locations in search of rare loot, such as the powerful Ray Gun.

It would be interesting to see how these portals would actually work in terms of whether players will be able to manually choose which location they want to teleport to or if it will be randomized.

If it is the latter, that would add serious risk into using the portals, which could play a part in them being balanced and not too over-powered.

Regardless, the addition of this feature would seem to be part of Treyarch’s plan to experiment with different content and mechanics in the Private Beta to ensure that the first version of Blackout at launch is as close to perfect as can be.

The Blackout Private Beta is currently live on Playstation 4, and will go live on both Xbox One and PC starting September 14. There will also be an open version of the beta for PC players starting September 15.

The beta will go offline across all platforms at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on September 17.
