Modern Warfare developers Infinity Ward have confirmed that they will be extending Season One of the hit FPS title and bringing a new weapon to the game.

Modern Warfare was released in October 2019, and Season One began in December, a couple of months later. It brought with it revamped classic maps Crash, Vacant and Shipment, various other multiplayer modes and two new weapons.

The original end date for Season One was scheduled to be January 28, but Infinity Ward have now revealed that they will be kicking off Season Two at a later date.

In a blog post published on January 15, Infinity Ward shared that a whole host of new challenges, as well as a new weapon, will be introduced to the game.

The blog post said: “Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive, including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover. To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One – it’s now ending on February 11.”

It also confirmed that during this time, there will be “2XP, 2X Weapon XP and 2X Tier Progression,” to help players achieve max rank and max level of their weapons before heading in to the new season.

The community reaction was somewhat mixed, as is to be expected with an announcement such as this. Some players believed it a waste of time, while others thanked IW for giving them more time to rank up.

‘Jaycall23’ on Twitter said called the decision “pathetic,” citing the fact that any decent player is already the top level.

Meanwhile, ‘The Alex’ commended the developers on their “awesome work.”

It has been rumored for a while that the Crossbow will be coming to Modern Warfare, and it seems the time has finally come.

With all-new maps, modes, and weapons on the way, players will have to be a little more patient and wait a couple of weeks before they get to enhance their Modern Warfare experience.
