Mindfreak clinched an intense five-game series against Echo Fox to go 2-1 on the first day of CWL Anaheim.

A match of the smallest margins went the distance, but ultimately Mindfreak were able to secure the win.

The first map of the series, Ardennes Forest Hardpoint, ultimately came down to just a single point. As the game timer ticked down, Mindfreak were able to prevent Echo Fox from taking control of the hill for long enough to secure the 211-210 win.

The teams returned to Ardennes Forest for Search and Destroy, and once again it came down to an insane ending. Going all the way to round 11, Mindfreak’s Denholm ‘Denz’ Taylor managed to pull off a 1v3 to secure the game, taking a 2-0 lead.

Echo Fox weren’t going down so easily, however, and responded with a 3-1 win on Ardennes Forest CTF followed by a Valkyrie Hardpoint victory to force a fifth game. Valkyrie Search and Destroy was the decider, and Mindfreak were able to stave off the reverse sweep with a 6-3 win.

At the end of the first day, Echo Fox, Unilad, and Mindfreak all sit on a 2-1 record in Pool C, although Mindfreak themselves trail in map difference, while a poor start sees Evil Geniuses at 0-3. Only two teams can advance to the winner bracket, meaning that the games against the open bracket qualifier will be key in determining who secures a spot.
