What is slide canceling in Warzone?

The whole premise around slide canceling is an effective way to get around the map quickly and a way to finesse enemies. It’s a mechanic that has become essential in Warzone and is vital across all maps.

Slide canceling enables players to swiftly get around the map, a lot faster than just simply sprinting, as well as making you a more-slippery target in a gunfight.

This is performed when using the Tactical Sprint multiple times in quick succession, which allows you to move at an increased speed across the map. It became an important movement mechanic in Modern Warfare and Warzone, and has remained in CoD games since, including in the latest iteration, Vanguard. Here’s how to slide cancel in Warzone.

How to slide cancel on PC in Warzone

If you are looking to take advantage of this mechanic on PC with a keyboard and mouse, then you are going to have to change some keybindings within the settings menu.

First, you will want to set the Change Stance/Slide to a bind you are comfortable pressing multiple times — we recommend using the left-ctrl key or C.

Once you have this binding set you are ready to start slide canceling all around the map. The process of doing it is quite simple, but you will need some practice. Here are the steps:

  1. Double-tap your Tactical Sprint button, which is left shift by default.
  2. Immediately press your Change Stance/Slide bind to slide, and quickly hit again to crouch and return to your standing position.
  3. Repeat over and over to continue slide canceling.

Once you have figured the timing out, you can do this in rapid succession over and over to slide cancel your way to a victory.

Slide canceling can be a bit easier on a controller in Warzone.

If you are looking to use this movement on a controller it is a bit simpler. It might feel a bit more natural to press these buttons at the same time. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to slide cancel in Warzone on a controller:

  1. Start sprinting — You can make this easier with the Auto Tactical Sprint setting enabled.
  2. Once you’ve run a few meters and before your Tactical Sprint is about to end, press the Slide button.
  3. Before your slide reaches its slowest point, press the Slide button again.
  4. Immediately after pressing the button again, press the Jump button.
  5. Repeat over and over to continue slide canceling.

After completing step 4, your character will be thrown back up into a standing position and you have successfully completed a slide cancel, giving you essentially unlimited Tactical Sprint.

Using this movement feature is one of the best ways to increase your speed around the Warzone map and break your enemies’ ankles. All it takes is a bit of practice to master the timing and you can embarrass your opponents on the battlefield.
