Evil Geniuses is on the brink of an early elimination from the CWL Championship following a loss to Elevate.

Elevate took down Evil Geniuses 3-1 in their match on the second day of the event, moving both teams to a 1-1 record.

While both teams are currently tied, the danger for Evil Geniuses is in their remaining match. They will have to defeat OpTic Gaming, who so far look to be in formidable form, in order to escape the group. Elevate’s own final match will be against Supremacy, who have yet to win a series.

For one prominent member of Evil Geniuses, this isn’t the first time survival at a Call of Duty Championships has been on the line in a match against OpTic Gaming. Patrick ‘Aches’ Price was responsible for eliminating the team from the event in both 2015 and 2016.

In this case, however, even a victory wouldn’t necessarily guarantee Evil Geniuses a spot in the playoffs. Assuming Elevate secure the win over Supremacy, then EG beating OpTic would put all three teams at a 2-1 record, with final placement determined by map record.

If Evil Geniuses is unable to beat OpTic Gaming, they will be one of several Pro League teams eliminated in the group stages of the CWL Championship. Epsilon Esports and Tainted Minds are already out of the running, while either Splyce or eUnited will also fall after their head-to-head.
