It had widely been assumed that Modern Warfare 4 would be the title of the 2019 Call of Duty game. With rumors of the next game being a new Modern Warfare, it was understandable that many thought it would be MW4.

However, prominent figures in the CoD community revealed it would actually be called Modern Warfare. This of course has proven correct resulting in Call of Duty shocking fans by avoiding the MW4 tag.

Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare sees the first return to the Modern Warfare series since 2011 when MW3 came out.

Even with the popularity of the Black Ops games, the Modern Warfare titles are arguably held in greater regard. It is this fondness that has resulted in Modern Warfare being one of the most anticipated releases in Call of Duty history.

Trailer

As is customary with any Call of Duty reveal, an exciting new trailer was shared.

While all CoD trailers do a fantastic job of hyping the next game, the Modern Warfare trailer looks particularly special.

The 1:52 long trailer which is based on “actual in-game footage” teases the lines “the rules have changed” and “going dark” – two phrases which have been seen in the build up to the Modern Warfare reveal. Various locations are shown in the campaign footage including most notably what appears to be the UK.

Release date

The fourth instalment of the Modern Warfare series will release on October 25, 2019.

This doesn’t come as any huge surprise as Call of Duty Black Ops 4 also released in October. Previous Call of Duty games have generally released in the first two weeks of November – it appears the new strategy is for an October release.

Modern Warfare will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. A video posted to the official PlayStation YouTube channel shows that their exclusivity deal will continue for Modern Warfare.

The trailer concludes with a voice saying: “Play new content first on PS4”. This potentially doesn’t refer to Modern Warfare and it could be a general statement – however it seems likely it does.

What’s next?

Speculation will continue to run wild as to what else Modern Warfare will entail.

In the coming weeks there will be events held for a select few to capture gameplay. This will be released when Call of Duty provide their first official look Modern Warfare 4 gameplay.
