Despite the Battlefield series being developed by EA DICE, it is Criterion who have had their hands on the battle royale expansion. The developers have dropped regular updates in a bid to keep up with player demands and they look to be taking a page out of everyone else’ book with respawning.
According to a leak from dataminer Temporyal, Criterion is seemingly working on implementing a respawn system to their Firestorm mode - with the addition coming in true Battlefield fashion.
Players would have to go to a location on the Halvoy map and capture it. Once secured, that particular squad or duo would receive an on-screen message informing them that respawn is available. According to Temporyal’s explanation, squad spawning would seemingly work like Multiplayer - with players spawning on their teammates instead of getting a new drop and choosing where to go.
Outside of changes to Firestorm, Temporyal also detailed that multiplayer would be getting some new content. It had been previously revealed that Mercury was to be the new map in-game, yet there was nothing in terms of location names or game modes. That changed with the leak.
The dataminer noted that the modes Breakthrough, Conquest, Domination, Frontlines, Outpost, Squad Contest, and Team Deathmatch will all be available on Mercury.
As ever, content revealed in datamines can change - for one reason or another - and end up being released a little differently than initially planned.
Despite Temporyal being reliable with information in the past, it’s always best to take these details with a pinch of salt until either DICE or Criterion comments on their updates or just flat out releases the changes.
