With Battlefield 6 fast approaching, YouTube star and battle royale savant Dr Disrespect believes a new attempt from EA could liven up the genre, and stand tall against the likes of Activision’s Call of Duty: Warzone.

It’s been just over two years since the last Battlefield title was released. Despite an attempt to capitalize on the hype of the battle royale genre in 2018, EA’s ‘Firestorm’ mode mostly fell short with Battlefield 5.

It dropped players into “Battlefield’s biggest map ever” and provided all the familiar tools of destruction. Yet a buggy release and lackluster player base left it more or less forgotten in a matter of months.

With Battlefield 6 next on the agenda for EA, the second time could be the charm. No one appears more excited for a fresh attempt than FPS expert Dr Disrespect.

Following a handful of leaks, we now know for certain that Battlefield 6 is targeting a 2021 release. With that in mind, Dr Disrespect was all too excited when discussing the game’s potential during a recent YouTube stream.

“I just feel like… EA’s gotta be working on some awesome battle royale experience with the Battlefield IP,” he said. “It’s just a no-brainer at this point.”

Despite the first attempt falling short, he believes a new take from the Battlefield devs could put them on the map in a big way.

“EA and Activision have always gone back and forth competing directly in the FPS genre.” With a new BR, Doc believes it has the potential to compete directly with Warzone.

“I’m excited because their engine, with all the tools and tech they have in place… they could do something pretty incredible if they put everything into it.”

From enormous player counts to a diverse range of vehicles and of course, Battlefield’s trademark destructibility, the recipe is there for a successful BR, according to Dr Disrespect.

It’s only a matter of time before EA lifts the lid on the upcoming AAA title. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any future battle royale news but for now, you can catch up on everything Battlefield 6 right here.
